The Snelling Center for Government fulfills its mission by providing the premier civic leadership development programs in Vermont, engaging citizens in strategic issues facing Vermont, and consulting on projects to make government and government programs more effective.
Civic Leadership
The Snelling Center trains, encourages, and supports Vermonters who wish to become involved at the state and local level. Our continually evolving selection of intensive programs focuses on the processes and strategies of change and leadership. The Snelling Center has created specialized leadership development opportunities for organizations also.
Public Engagement
The Snelling Center draws from a variety of tools and approaches to citizen participation and public engagement. Our programs reflect a fundamental belief that citizen participation is essential to the growth and preservation of democracy. Recognizing both the diversity and interdependence of our citizens, we also believe that this participation can build the best possible quality of life for all Vermonters.
Dialogue and Deliberation
As a facilitator of public policy dialogue, the Snelling Center invites individuals and groups to discuss their values and beliefs, investigate current knowledge, define key issues, and explore possible solutions to critical policy issues. We support such discussions with structured process support combined with a wealth of original reference and analytical tools.
Consulting Projects
Since its inception in 1992, the Snelling Center has provided support to numerous governmental agencies and commissions seeking to improve governmental processes and outcomes. To these projects, we offer our skills in project management, strategic planning, organizational development, collaborative design and facilitative leadership.
